Which direction?

As part of my AR project I intend to interrogate the interface between physicians and management. An obvious problem however is that for the NHS as an organisation or for the constituent parts, be they individual trusts or even clinical teams, I don’t believe that management and physicians have the same unified purpose.

which way?

The implications of this are obvious, significant and I believe importantly, not common knowledge.

It strikes me that there are many issues that need addressing. The unifying common purpose of the organisational management needs to be effectively communicated to the rank and file. In most organisations this purpose will be generally understood and incorporated into the working practices. However, in a managed professional bureaucracy such as medicine it is frequently the case that individuals do not know, agree or even share this purpose and this failing I believe is the foundation of the poor interface between management and physicians
